Sanu’s Most
Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Sanu located?

Sanu is located at the Watermark Hotel in Tysons, Virginia.

Guests can stay at Sanu Postnatal Retreat with babies up to 12 weeks post-childbirth age.

Most families stay between 5–14 nights, depending on their recovery needs and desired level of support.

You may stay with us at any point during the first 12 weeks after delivery, but recommend staying within the first eight weeks and the earlier the better so we can provide you with care and support when you need it the most! Please contact our Reservations team at hello@sanupostpartum.com if you would like to stay beyond the 12-week mark.

It’s essential to book your stay at Sanu well in advance to secure a spot that aligns with your due date and desired duration for your stay after giving birth. Early booking also allows you to take advantage of any special offers or promotions that may be available. While you are able to book anytime up to when you are 12 weeks postpartum, we recommend booking when you are pregnant so we can pre-reserve special services for you.

Whether you’re ready to book today or have additional questions, Sanu’s professional team is always ready to help you during the booking process, ensuring a seamless and stress-free experience.

A comprehensive list of recommended items will be sent to you after you book, but we recommend thinking about items such as breast pumps early on.

Partners are encouraged to stay overnight but can also stay for as long or as little as they need to during the day. Additionally, your customized care plan will be partner-inclusive!

A fee of $125 will be applied to the room for each dog and/or cat pet accompanying guests. For longer stays, this fee will be assessed every seven days. An additional deep cleaning fee of $300 for cats will be applied per room, per stay. Guests must provide their own cat litter and cat litter boxes. For the safety and wellbeing of our care staff, guests must also agree to crate or temporarily keep pets in the bathroom during services and rounds as requested. Any other domestic pet will need to be reviewed by the hotel on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at hello@sanupostpartum.com for help with this.

Absolutely! We understand the importance of family during this special time and aim to accommodate your needs as much as possible. We are happy to provide a roll-away bed to ensure everyone’s comfort. Please note that while we warmly welcome the presence of older siblings, our specialized care program does not specifically incorporate activities or provisions for other children, which might result in older children feeling bored or out of place during some of our activities. Please let us know during your intake process if any older children will be staying with you so we can make proper accommodations for them.

We understand that babies can arrive early or late. We will do our very best to accommodate those unforeseen circumstances and automatically modify your reservation so you can join the next upcoming “Retreat Week” or opt to change your reservation to a Sanu Anytime stay. Should you need back-up, in-home care in the meantime, we can coordinate that for you as well!

Absolutely! We warmly welcome non-birthing parents at Sanu. Your customized care plan will take this into consideration so your stay fully prepares you for life as new parents!

To provide you with the best experience, we kindly require full payment at the time of booking. This ensures we can secure your suite, prepare your personalized items, and coordinate the dedicated staff who will support your stay.

As soon as your reservation is confirmed, you’ll receive a suite of valuable resources to help you prepare for your upcoming experience. Additionally, we’ll open a direct line of communication with your assigned staff early in the process. This allows you to ask questions about your stay, access helpful resources ahead of time, and receive guidance on all aspects of the birth and postpartum journey.

We are here to make this special time as seamless and supportive as possible.

Postpartum care isn’t yet fully recognized by insurance in the U.S., but many families are still able to receive reimbursement for certain services included in their stay.

Because this can vary widely by plan, we offer a personalized Insurance Snapshot to help you understand what may be possible for your specific situation. We’ll do our best to identify potential pathways, though reimbursement ultimately depends on factors such as your specific insurance plan, eligibility requirements, documentation, and how claims are reviewed by your insurer.

For many families, this process provides helpful clarity during planning—and in many cases, families do see a meaningful portion of their stay reimbursed, even if only partially.

Not exactly. While overnight support is an important part of what we provide, Sanu is designed to offer more comprehensive postpartum care.

In addition to helping you rest, we focus on recovery, hands-on guidance, and building confidence in caring for your baby—so you feel more prepared when you return home.

Each stay is guided by a customized care plan, built on a physician-developed care framework designed to support meaningful, measurable progress during your time with us.

If you’d like to learn more about how this works, you’re always welcome to reach out to us at hello@sanupostpartum.com

We are proud to offer Sanu At-Home through our highly trained doulas, care specialists, and partners. Please inquire about this pilot program by emailing us at hello@sanupostpartum.com.
