Why It Matters Who Cares for You After Birth: Meet Morgan, a Postpartum Doula at Sanu

April 21, 2025

When it comes to postpartum care, it matters who’s in the room.

The first few weeks after giving birth—what we call the fourth trimester—can be as overwhelming as they are beautiful. Sleep deprivation, healing, breastfeeding challenges, identity shifts, and a brand new baby: it’s a lot to hold.

This is why more and more parents are turning to postpartum doulas—professionals trained to offer emotional support, practical care, and guidance through one of life’s most vulnerable transitions.

At Sanu Postnatal Retreat, we believe your postpartum experience deserves to be elevated, healing, and deeply supportive. And that starts with the people we trust to care for you.

Why Choosing the Right Postpartum Doula Is Essential

Not all postpartum care is created equal. The person supporting you in the early days after birth has the power to shape not only your recovery, but your sense of confidence and peace in new parenthood.

A truly exceptional postnatal doula does more than check boxes. She listens deeply. She moves quietly. She anticipates your needs before you know them yourself.

She holds the mother, so the mother can hold her baby.

Meet Morgan: Calm, Capable, Compassionate

One of the most trusted members of our care team, Morgan is a Sanu postpartum doula who brings grace, intuition, and warmth to every home and retreat suite she enters.

Morgan’s approach to postpartum care blends professional excellence with the kind of emotional intelligence that can’t be taught. Her clients often describe her as “a calming presence” and “someone who made everything feel possible again.”

Whether helping with newborn care, supporting breastfeeding, encouraging rest, or just being a reassuring voice, Morgan embodies the gold standard in doula services. Read her full staff interview below. (Psst! All newly booked parenting teams will receive staff bios and interviews like Morgan’s!)

What do you love most about caring for newborns or supporting new moms?

New moms and newborns are in a vulnerable state during the first few weeks postpartum. There are joys and exciting new experiences along with challenges and extreme learning curves. Not only was a born, but a mother was born as well. As a birth and postpartum doula, my calling to serve families during this time stems from a passion to support mom, baby and the whole family, through this transition. I love watching a woman grow into a confident mother who advocates for herself and her child while feeling supported to heal and recover from childbirth.

What makes you feel proud at the end of a shift at Sanu?

When I spend 1:1 time with our families at Sanu, I am able to give my undivided attention to learning about their needs, challenges and also things that are going well during those first few weeks of their postpartum journey. I feel the most proud when I am able to improve a families experience in real time. Whether it’s a challenge with feeding or soothing baby, or managing pain during recovery for mom, when I leave the room and an issues has been resolved, I know I helped a family instantly.

Is there something unique about the way you care for others that parents might like to know?

I care for a family by meeting them where they are. It is not my job to make you have the experience I think is best, but to support you with what works best for your family.

What’s something about you (fun fact, hobby, or personality trait) that brings comfort or joy to the families you serve?

I am a person that loves a challenge or learning something new. I run marathon plus distances, which takes stamina and grit. Through my doula work, I bring this same energy. I am driven to keep providing different solutions until we find something that works for your family!

What do you want new parents to know or feel the moment they meet you?

I want new parents to feel comfortable leaning on me for any needs they have postpartum. It’s okay to ask for help, I encourage it! I am here to provide a listening ear, encouragement and support.

Why do you think parents can feel safe leaving their baby in your care?

My genuine passion for mom and baby care shines through during every interaction with me. Doula in latin means “woman servant”; and I am here to serve you. I provide care to you and your family as if you were my own relatives.
