Suggested Timeline For Your
Postpartum Stay
Following the birth of your baby, our postpartum retreat is designed to help you recover and adjust to your new role as a parent, whether it’s your first child or one of many. This is our suggested timeline to prepare for your postpartum stay:
Schedule a tour of Sanu
Take a tour of Sanu, and book your stay (You can book your stay at any time, but we recommend you book early to ensure room availability. Check out our FAQs for more information.)
- Speak with your Human Resources department about options for your postpartum leave.
- Schedule hospital tours
- Book your Sanu reservation
- Stop by for an optional Sanu masterclass on infant safety (mothers who have booked with us can join us for our Sanu Seminar on infant CPR and/or one of our baby care masterclasses before their stay.)
Start getting your postpartum leave papers and plan in order.
- Buy your car seat. You cannot leave the hospital without one. Ensure your car seat is installed properly. A Safe Kids Coalition or a Child Passenger Safety technician in your area can help with this. You can also find an inspection station through this directory maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
- Get your hospital tour.
- Prepare for your stay with Sanu. We will send you all of the information you need to prepare for your stay with us, including a list of items to bring with you and a list of therapeutic services that Sanu can pre-book on your behalf.
Baby is born!
Stay with us! We encourage guests to stay with Sanu right after a safe discharge from the hospital after childbirth, but we understand that you may want to check in at home first. We do our best to stay flexible to adjust to your baby’s due date.
Premium Rooms for
Parents & Baby
We know the importance of a comfortable and nurturing environment for both parents and babies. Our retreat accommodations at the boutique Lyle Hotel in Washington, DC are thoughtfully designed to create a serene and relaxing atmosphere.
Each room is equipped with cozy furnishings, private bathrooms, and essential amenities to ensure your utmost comfort. We also provide bassinets and other baby essentials to make your stay as convenient as possible.
Residence Suite
This is the standard suite for stays beyond just a few days. Everything in the Retreat Suite, plus a cozy kitchenette — somewhere to keep prepped meals and pumped milk, warm something up at an odd hour, and stash the snacks nobody wants to go downstairs for at three in the morning. The kitchenette suites also run about fifty to seventy square feet larger. If you’re staying a week or more, this is the one we recommend.

Retreat Suite
Burl wood Art Deco headboards, berber carpet, a white marble bath, D.S. & Durga toiletries, a Nespresso machine, and a mini-fridge for milk and whatever else you want cold. We recommend requesting our Retreat Suite with double queen beds for enough space for mom to sleep and recover undisturbed and a larger suite overall.
